Summer in South Texas means longer days, higher temperatures and, for many households, higher energy bills. As air conditioners work overtime to keep homes comfortable, increased energy use can put added pressure on family budgets. That’s why CPS Energy offers a variety of assistance programs, energy-saving resources and conservation initiatives designed to help customers manage costs, improve energy efficiency and stay connected throughout the hottest months of the year.

Finding the right program is easier with CPS Energy’s Assistance Finder, an online tool that helps customers identify the bill assistance and energy-saving programs they may qualify for through a single application. Instead of navigating multiple forms, customers can quickly explore available resources and connect with the support that best fits their needs:

Looking for a lower monthly bill?

Income-qualified customers may be eligible for the Affordability Discount Program (ADP), which provides a monthly discount on electric and gas service, helping make utility costs more manageable throughout the year.

Need more predictable payments?

The Budget Payment Plan (BPP) averages annual energy costs into consistent monthly payments, reducing the impact of seasonal spikes and making it easier to budget each month.

Want to lower your home’s energy use?

Through Casa Verde, qualifying customers can receive free weatherization upgrades such as insulation, weather stripping, duct sealing and energy-efficient LED lighting. These improvements help keep homes cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter and can reduce overall energy consumption for years to come.

Experiencing financial hardship?

The Residential Energy Assistance Partnership (REAP) offers emergency bill assistance to qualifying customers, helping households avoid service disconnection during difficult times.

A senior customer?

Customers age 60 and older may qualify for the Senior Citizen Late Fee Waiver, which removes late payment fees and provides added flexibility for those on fixed incomes.

Small changes can make a big difference

While assistance programs can help customers reduce their bills, conservation remains one of the most effective ways to lower energy costs. During the summer, air conditioning is often the largest contributor to a home’s electricity use, so even small adjustments can have a noticeable impact on energy consumption and monthly bills.

With CPS Energy’s  conservation levels,  a color-coded system can help guide customers on when and how to conserve energy. Customers can check conservation levels on the CPS Energy website to see recommendations based on the color of the day. Some examples include:

  • Setting the thermostat a few degrees higher when no one is home
  • Using ceiling fans to improve air circulation and cool down temperatures
  • Closing blinds or curtains during the hottest part of the day
  • Replacing HVAC filters regularly
  • Running dishwashers and laundry machines during the early morning or evening hours, when temperatures are lower

Customers can also take advantage of CPS Energy’s online conservation resources, which include seasonal energy-saving tips, home efficiency guidance and tools that help households better understand where they use the most energy.

No matter the season, unexpected expenses can happen. CPS Energy assistance programs are designed to help customers stay connected while making energy costs more manageable.
