When Alice followed the White Rabbit into Wonderland, she had no idea the friends she’d make! Join her at the Carver Community Cultural Center on May 7 at 7:30 p.m. and on May 8 at 3:00 p.m. for Alice! A Ballet Wonderland. Her friends the White Rabbit, March Hare, Dormouse and Cheshire Cat will all be there. And the Mad Hatter, smitten by the graceful dancer he sees, leaps and bounds into the air and welcomes Alice for a duet. But the Queen of Hearts, filled with jealousy, has other plans and all is revealed during a game of croquet.

Alamo Arts Ballet Theatre’s Executive Director Judith Gani first created this interpretation of Alice in 2012 with the help of Artistic Director Julie Morton-Simpson. This year will be the fourth time San Antonio audiences get to enjoy this production of Alice! A Ballet Wonderland but it’s the first time that it appears at the Carver Community Cultural Center, 226 N. Hackberry. Ticket prices are $15 for children and $30 for adults. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
“This full-length ballet story is for the whole family to enjoy,” says executive director Judith Gani. “Kids love watching other children on stage during the show. When they see the Red Queen, they think she is high hilarity. And of course, the audience pleaser is the tea party because it’s nuts!” adds Gani.

Set to the music of Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Danny Elfman (who wrote the music for Disney’s live-action film version of Alice In Wonderland), this full-length ballet production incorporates professional dancers from Alamo Arts Ballet Theatre as well as visiting guest artists. It also has supporting cast of 38 children from the Ballet Arts School and other local ballet schools who play oysters, lobsters, butterflies, daisies, larkspur, playing cards and hedgehogs. Alice! A Ballet Wonderland is meant to inspire the senses with bright visual costumes, makeup, music and set design by Marta Penaranda.
