The first of USAA’s employees to occupy a building the financial services giant purchased in 2017 are moving into their cubicles and offices at 300 Convent St.

On Monday, the company reported roughly 300 USAA employees are settling into four floors of the former Bank of America Plaza building. They will occupy floors 7, 9, 14, and 16.

The employees, who work mostly in technology-related fields, are the last of hundreds being relocated from USAA’s University Park Tech Center location on the far Northwest Side to the company’s two office spaces in the downtown area.

USAA Real Estate Company purchased the 300 Convent building across the street from One Riverwalk Place in August 2017, with the intent to move hundreds of more employees downtown. USAA acquired One Riverwalk Place in 2013 and began moving workers there in 2015.

A spokesman said that Monday’s move will bring USAA’s downtown workforce to approximately 700 employees in both One Riverwalk Place and 300 Convent. The company employs more than 19,500 people in the San Antonio area, with most of those located in its sprawling headquarters on Interstate 10 between Huebner and Wurzbach roads.

Renovations to the parking garage attached to One Riverwalk Place are ongoing as well, the spokesman said. When complete in fall 2019, the garage will provide more than 500 parking spaces – an increase of approximately 200 spaces from the current configuration. Plans call for parking in the garage to be available to the public after business hours on weekdays and all day on weekends and holidays.

In December 2017, City Council unanimously approved a $6-million incentive package that has led USAA to move up to 2,000 employees downtown over the next five years and develop the additional center-city parking.

USAA employs approximately 34,000 people worldwide and has more than 12.7 million members, mostly military service members and their families.
