For our second episode of The 210 Podcast, host Mari Aguirre-Rodriguez interviewed two candidates who are quite familiar with each other?, ?state Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer and state Sen. José Menéndez. These two experienced legislators are battling for Senate District 26, again. Menéndez beat Martinez Fischer (59% to 41%) during a special election in January 2015 after Leticia Van de Putte vacated her seat for a Mayoral campaign.

The upcoming March 1 Democratic primary will decide the race, as the winner will run unopposed in the general election. Early voting for the primary begins on Feb. 16.

  1. The first podcast was better than the second. In the second podcast, Aguirre-Rodriguez sounds impressed with everything said by Menendez and Martinez Fisher, and she audibly affirms much of what they say. The candidates controlled the discussion, and it didn’t feel like there were direct questions around specific issues. The next podcast will be with Sen. Uresti and Helen Madla. Has the Podcast requested a discussion with Republicans Judson and Straus? I realize that the podcast is getting off the ground, but I hope it takes a more neutral, journalistic approach going forward if it continues to be sponsored by The Rivard Report. Right now the podcasts sound like they are produced by the Democratic Party, not by a neutral news organization.

    1. Tom,

Thank you for the feedback, it helps to hear what listeners are saying so we can keep improving the show over time. Yes, we are just getting started and trying to cram as many candidates in before March 1st, which is a challenge. Unfortunately, some of the elections will be left out (we are only one team of guest contributors).

Judson / Straus is still a possibility but we have not booked them, yet. I live in the district and would love to make this happen if we can.

I promise we will keep working hard to improve the show and there will be plenty of non-political content coming, too.

      Thank you,
      Paul DiGiovanni

p.s. There is plenty of room for more podcasters! There are so many interesting and influential people in San Antonio that need to be interviewed.
