The San Antonio River Foundation and the San Antonio River Authority (SARA) are inviting the community to attend the inaugural Mission Reach Flotilla Festival which will take place Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 2 -11 p.m. at Mission County Park Pavilions (6030 Padre Dr. San Antonio, TX 78214). The free festival will kick off with the first-ever Mission Reach Flotilla parade where registered participants will compete for the most decorated kayaks and canoes. Following the flotilla, the community is invited to enjoy an evening of live music, a variety of vendors, activities and food directly off the river.

“The goal of this event is to help bring awareness to the newly developed Mission Reach Ecosystem Restoration and Recreation Project of the San Antonio River,” said Estela Avery, executive director of the San Antonio River Foundation. “We want the community to enjoy all the amenities that this segment of the River Walk has to offer including more than 15-miles of hike and bike trails, pavilions and the beautiful restored scenery and wildlife.”

The Mission Reach Flotilla Festival will also feature a free music lineup that includes performances from the Peterson Brothers (blues and R&B), Finding Friday (70s, 80s, 90s & today), Los Nahuatlatos (skajunto, hip hop cumbia, reggae), and headliners Los Texmaniacs (conjunto) and Jimmy Gonzales y Grupo Mazz (tejano).

“We are working on making this event part of Fiesta© San Antonio in the near future,” said Suzanne Scott, general manager of the San Antonio River Authority. “Last year, SARA organized the Mission Reach Float Fest which was the launching pad to this year’s festival and its success gave us the encouragement to seek the foundation as a partner to create a bigger, better and more exciting event to highlight the Mission Reach segment.”

This event is made possible thanks in part to the sponsorship of Bexar County, Bud Light, Calumet, OCI Solar Power, and Spurs Sports & Entertainment. For more information and to view the full event schedule, visit www.MissionReachFlotillaFestival.org.
