Sunkey Beverage Holdings, a Florida-based beer distribution company, has reached an agreement to acquire San Antonio-based Silver Eagle Beverages, one of the nation’s largest independent distributors of Anheuser-Busch beverages.

Terms of the deal, which is expected to close after regulatory approvals and “other customary closing conditions,” were not disclosed in a press release from Silver Eagle, which will continue to operate under the same name.

“We are pleased to have entered into this business transaction with Sunkey Beverage Holdings and look forward to moving into the final stages of the agreement,” said John L. Nau, III, Silver Eagle’s chairman and CEO in the May 15 release. “Sunkey is the ideal group to acquire the San Antonio-area territory. They are family-owned and as a current member of the Anheuser-Busch wholesaler family have a clear understanding of the beverage industry.”

A spokeswoman with Silver Eagle Beverages said the distributor would not comment beyond details in the release until the deal closes.

Silver Eagle Beverages employs more than 500 employees who service the San Antonio area plus 12 other counties in southwest Texas. It is responsible for the sales, marketing and distribution of Anheuser-Busch, Grupo Modelo, and a variety of domestic and imported microbrews, craft beers, craft spirits and non-alcoholic beverages and waters.

The company serves more than 3,800 accounts across 18,481 square miles, according to its website, including metro San Antonio and Atascosa, Bexar, Dimmit, Edwards, Frio, Kinney, Maverick, Medina, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, Wilson and Zavala counties.

The sale, which was previously reported by industry trade publication Brewbound, includes all of Silver Eagle’s business activities in Bexar County and the other 12 counties, as well as Silver Eagle’s San Antonio corporate office and warehouse, Del Rio warehouse and Carrizo Springs depot.

Nau sold Silver Eagle’s Houston territories in 2019 to private investment firm Redwood Capital Investments.

Sunkey is a second-generation family-owned beverage distributor established in 1993, according to the release, “with a strong commitment to its employees, customers and the community.”

“John Nau and the Silver Eagle team have built an amazing business in the greater San Antonio area,” Sunkey CEO Tim Mitchell said in the statement. “We look forward to continuing their legacy of providing the best beverages and quality service through a dedicated team of employees.”
