My journey into the engineering field began in my early twenties, fueled by curiosity and a desire to create solutions to complex problems.
I didn’t start out as an engineering manager — far from it. I took on tough jobs early in my career, navigating challenges that demanded perseverance and adaptability. Yet, each experience added a layer of expertise that prepared me for the role I proudly hold today at Stephen G. Cook Engineering (SGCE).
Education and hands-on experience have been pivotal in shaping my career. I pursued engineering with a focus on project management, learning not just the technical aspects but also the art of leadership, communication and strategic planning. These skills proved invaluable in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications.
Throughout my early roles, I was drawn to project management because it allowed me to blend technical problem-solving with interpersonal collaboration. Over the years, I developed a deep appreciation for guiding projects from inception to completion — a passion that now defines my work at SGCE.
At SGCE, I’m fortunate to have a dynamic and flexible work environment. Many of our employees, including me, benefit from the privilege of working from home or adopting a hybrid setup. This flexibility not only boosts productivity but also ensures a healthy work-life balance.

My typical day involves a mix of virtual meetings, site visits and client consultations. Whether I’m inspecting project progress on site or strategizing with a client to refine their vision, each day presents new opportunities to solve problems and innovate. I thrive on the variety and the opportunity to interact with a wide range of people—clients, contractors, and my talented colleagues.
Project management is not without its challenges. Tight deadlines, evolving client expectations and the complexities of coordinating with multiple stakeholders can make the job demanding. However, these very challenges are what I find most rewarding. There’s a unique satisfaction in navigating obstacles to deliver results that exceed expectations.
What I love most about my role is helping clients bring their ideas to life. Guiding them through the planning and construction phases, ensuring that every detail aligns with their vision, and ultimately seeing their excitement at the finished project — it’s an unparalleled feeling. It’s the kind of work that reminds me why I fell in love with engineering and project management in the first place.
Among the many projects I’ve worked on, the Texas Pickle Hall project stands out as a highlight this year. Located at U.S. Interstate 35 and Loop 1604, this state-of-the-art indoor pickleball facility is an ambitious and innovative endeavor. Being part of its design and construction process has been incredibly rewarding. From collaborating with designers to our involvement during the construction phases, every step has offered new insights and challenges. Seeing the final structure come to life, knowing the positive impact it will have on the community, has been amazing.

Stephen G. Cook Engineering is more than just a workplace; it’s a hub for creativity, collaboration and growth. Our team thrives on pushing boundaries and delivering excellence in every project.
