Alamo Ranch. Denver Heights. Southtown. Olmos Park. Converse. Stone Oak.
San Antonio is a city full of distinct, vibrant neighborhoods. Each neighborhood has its own personality and sometimes can feel like its own town.
Scott Chidgey recently invited us out to his Museum Reach home, where his favorite spots are the pool and Elsewhere Garden Bar & Kitchen. And before that we met Dasia Smith, whose family moved to the East Side after Hurricane Katrina. She chatted about her neighborhood: one nearby standout, she says, is Tank’s Pizza.
As part of San Antonio Report’s Where I Live: San Antonio series, we have asked residents to send in essays about their neighborhoods. And they delivered. For years, we have published dozens of commentaries on Saturday mornings from real residents in neighborhoods all over the city.
It’s easy to submit your 500- to 1,000-word essay. If it’s selected for inclusion in the series, we assign a photographer to capture what’s so special about your neighborhood. Once it gets published, we send you a $250 stipend thanks to support from the H. E. Butt Foundation.
Want to see if one of your neighbors has submitted their story? Check out our interactive map that you can search, click through and enjoy. But just because someone else has written about your neighborhood before doesn’t mean you can’t write your own version. Get in touch and share your story!
