The Where I Live series aims to showcase our diverse city and region by spotlighting its many vibrant neighborhoods. Each week a local resident invites us over and lets us in on what makes their neighborhood special. Have we been to your neighborhood yet? Get in touch to share your story. If your story is selected and published, you will receive a $250 stipend.

Tucked into the heart of the Museum Reach along the River Walk is River House, it’s more than just a house — it’s a lifestyle. There’s a perfect balance of energy and calm here, of culture and convenience. But more than anything, it just feels like home.

One of the first things I noticed when I moved in was the people. The community here is full of personality. Everyone comes from different walks of life, and that makes it really special.

I’ve had great conversations with neighbors in the hallway, shared a laugh over drinks by the pool and bumped into familiar faces at the Pearl more times than I can count. I’ve even met lifelong friends, attended their weddings and celebrated their firstborn kiddo. It’s the kind of place where people say hi, remember your dog’s name and genuinely look out for each other.

The location couldn’t be better. I’m right in the middle of everything. I can hop on a highway in minutes if I need to, but most days, I stay close to home because — honestly — everything I love is within walking distance.

Living on the River Walk means I can take a quick scooter, bike ride, or stroll to a coffee shop, or be at a concert or museum in less time than it takes my bestie to do her hair.

Now let me tell you about my favorite place … the pool.

From April to October, it’s basically my second living room. After a long day, there’s nothing better than dipping into the water, kicking back in a lounge chair, and watching the sun go down over the River Walk.

Weekends often turn into pool hangouts with neighbors. It feels like a resort without ever leaving home. Picture “White Lotus” without the drama.

One of my favorite places nearby is the San Antonio Museum of Art. It’s just across the river, and I love stopping in — sometimes to check out a new exhibit, sometimes just to enjoy a quiet moment and sometimes to enjoy Tre Trattoria’s bolognese pasta.

Elsewhere is another go-to. It’s this laidback, photo-worthy bar with a quirky vibe that I love. You can grab a drink under the string lights, hang out with friends, and just enjoy the breeze off the river. The owners are also San Antonio residents and always give back to our city. From Mardi Gras to Pride, they are always hosting events to celebrate the river parades throughout the year. Even though it’s right in the middle of town, it somehow feels like a little escape.

And then, of course, there’s Pearl. It’s a five-minute walk, and I take full advantage. Whether I’m hitting the farmers market on a Saturday morning, grabbing a coffee at Local, or settling in to watch a game at Down on Grayson, it’s always time well spent. I’m a big fan of the bar at Hotel Emma — charming, historic, and always buzzing with interesting and unique people. Pearl’s Stable Hall has hosted some incredible live music nights and I love that all of it is just steps away.

At the end of the day, River House gives me everything I want in city living — community, culture, and convenience. This place has become such a meaningful part of my life. It’s not just where I live. It’s where I feel like I truly belong.
