A taste of Canada is coming to San Antonio.
Canadian coffee and donut chain Tim Hortons will open its first location on the North Side later this year.
Sadruddin Sarfani, owner of Redland Plaza, said Tim Hortons’ plans to renovate a new building and open a 1,500-square foot location in his shopping center at the corner of Redland Road and Loop 1604.
Sarfani said renovations will start in March, take 60 to 90 days and finish by July 1. The coffee and donut shop would open this summer.
The Canadian chain, which sells breakfast options and coffees, opened in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1964. It’s known for its donuts and donut holes called Timbits. Tim Hortons was bought by Restaurant Brands International, which also owns Burger King and Popeyes, in 2014.
Sarfani said Tim Hortons’ popularity in Canada convinced him to welcome the chain to his shopping center. He was impressed by the company’s expansion in the U.S. and hopes that having its first San Antonio location at Redland Plaza will draw customers.
Tim Hortons already has 13 locations in eight Texas cities, including Austin and Houston, according to the company’s website. There are also more than 100 Tim Horton’s shops in Mexico, including locations along the border in Reynosa, Matamoros, Nuevo Laredo and Piedras Negras.
The company is expanding its U.S. operations after its 2014 purchase by Restaurant Brands International, according to a report by food industry magazine QSR from December 2025. In that report, company officials said they were adding around 50 franchises in the United States in 2025. Between 2022 and 2024, Tim Hortons went from zero Texas locations to eight.
Sarfani said Tim Hortons isn’t the only new tenant coming to Redland Plaza. Eos Fitness, a gym franchise, is under construction, as well.
