More than 270 Works Featured in Annual Night of Artists Sale and Exhibition
The Briscoe Western Art Museum presents the 2017 Night of Artists Art Sale & Exhibition showcasing the best in contemporary Western Art by 73 of the country’s leading Western artists. The show runs through May 14, 2017 and features 277 works of painting, sculpture, and mixed media art on two gallery floors. Entrance to the exhibition is free with museum admission, and all artwork on display is available for purchase throughout the six-week exhibition with proceeds benefiting the museum.
The range of subjects and styles reflect the vastness of the great American West from breathtaking landscapes, rugged frontier cowboys, majestic wildlife, and detailed Native American tableaus. Among the notable artists included in this year’s show are T. D. Kelsey, Mark Maggiori, Bill Nebeker, Sandy Scott, Billy Schenck, Kent Ullberg, and Kim Wiggins. San Antonio artists on exhibit include Cliff Cavin, Caroline Korbell Carrington, Gladys Roldán-de-Moras, and Robert Harrison.
Night of Artists is the largest fundraiser for the Briscoe with proceeds supporting the Museum. Since opening weekend, the Briscoe has sold over $800,000 in art and raised $1.2 million for the Musuem.

David Crockett Award for Artists’ Choice: Gladys Roldán de Moras, Sunday at Mission San Jose, Oil on linen.
Sam Houston Award for Painting: Mark Maggiori, The Journey West, Oil on canvas.
Jamie Bowie Award for Sculpture: Curt Mattson, Dealin’ with the Bolter, Bronze.
William B. Travis Award for Patrons’ Choice: Ragan Gennusa, Hold Onto Your Hats, Oil on canvas.
This year’s Night of Artists also marks the launch of the Briscoe’s new Museum App which features an Night of Artists highlights tour with background stories from several participating artists illustrating their creative processes and inspirations for pieces in the show. Additional app tours include Spring 2017 highlights tour and an outdoor sculpture tour. Each self-guided tour includes exclusive content like artist interviews, background stories on specific works, and behind-the-scenes information.
