Think you can sing well enough to dazzle a symphony audience? The San Antonio Symphony Mastersingers need new voices for their 2017-18 concert season and are holding auditions for all vocal parts.
Established in 1944 by the San Antonio Symphony‘s founding Music Director Max Reiter, the approximately 125-member chorus now performs independently as well as with the symphony.
The Mastersingers have received widespread acclaim, giving several performances at Carnegie Hall in New York and touring internationally in Spain and Italy, including performances at the Vatican in Rome and St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice.
Last season, the group’s 73rd, featured an array of classical performances including Orff’s Carmina Burana, Faure’s Requiem, Mozart’s Ave verum corpus, and Rossini’s Petite messe sollennelle. The chorus also played alongside the symphony for their holiday pops show, showcasing classical renditions of contemporary holiday music.
Under the direction of John Silantien, the Mastersingers’ 74th season will include performances of Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Handel’s Messiah, a concert with the San Antonio Wind Symphony, the group’s annual performance at the Musical Shower of Roses at the Little Flower Basilica, and a summer concert tour in France.
Auditions will be held by appointment on Aug. 19 and 20 and will consist of vocalizations, ear testing, sight-reading, and an optional prepared solo. An accompanist will be provided. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 210-843-9237.
