The Southside Book Fair is coming back this weekend for its fifth event featuring more than 40 local and regional authors.
The free, family-friendly event is happening on Sunday, March 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Por Vida Academy campus, located at 1135 Mission Road.
The event is hosted by Live From the Southside Magazine, the South San Antonio–based publication launched in 2020 by local author April Monterrosa. And it aims to foster literacy while offering a platform for local readers to meet with authors from their own community.
“I love seeing our local authors share their success stories with attendees. We hope this inspires more literacy initiatives in our community,” Monterrosa said in a news release. “This event is a testament to the power of storytelling and the importance of fostering a love for reading at every age.”
Among this year’s author lineup are Rosie Salazar author of “Strong Body, Smart Choices: A Guide to Healthy Eating for Kids and Parents”; Adelita Madrigal, known as A.M. Trinidad, author of the adult romance novel “Ugly Truth”; and Hazell Thomas author of “Money Moves a Nation: A Civil Rights Lesson for Children.”
Authors will also participate in a panel focused on journeys, challenges, and successes moderated by KSAT’s RJ Marquez.
Proceeds from the book fair help support the Southside Literacy Initiative, meant to expand access to books and educational materials by installing “little libraries” across the community where access to books is limited.
