A small plane crash just outside of the Stinson Municipal Airport Saturday morning left one person dead and two seriously injured.

The crash took place in a residential backyard on the city’s South Side at 9:10 a.m. San Antonio authorities found one passenger dead at the scene and dispatched the two other passengers to the Brooke Army Medical Center with severe burns.

A spokeswoman for the Stinson Municipal Airport said she did not believe the aircraft had taken off from Stinson.

The crash resulted in a small fire in a backyard that was put out by the San Antonio Fire Department, according to Woody Woodward, San Antonio Fire Department’s public relations manager. No other structures were damaged in the crash, he said.

Woodward added the SAFD turned the scene over to the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration for further investigation into the incident.
