Are you looking for a guide to the Nov. 4, 2025, Bexar County venue tax election? See our updated Voter Guide here.
San Antonio’s city leadership is poised for a shakeup this year as voters elect a new mayor and all 10 seats on the City Council have contested races.
For the first time, the winners will all serve four-year terms — thanks to changes that voters approved in November.
As you prepare for this important May 3 election, the San Antonio Report’s 2025 Voter Guide has everything you need to know about the candidates, plus how and when to cast your vote.
At the top of the ticket, Mayor Ron Nirenberg is term-limited from seeking reelection and San Antonio is holding its first mayor’s race without an incumbent on the ballot since 2009.
On the City Council, sitting incumbents in Districts 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, and 10 are hoping to hold onto their seats despite challengers. Four other council races — in Districts 4, 6, 8 and 9 — are wide open.
We’ve compiled candidate profiles on all 27 mayoral hopefuls and 59 City Council candidates with links to their campaign websites, social media profiles and past news coverage.
Many of the candidates also filled out our 2025 Q&A to help readers learn about their backgrounds and how they would approach the job.
Also among the highlights on the May 3 municipal election ballot are school board races in San Antonio ISD, Northside ISD, Alamo Heights ISD, Comal ISD, Judson ISD, Medina Valley ISD and Southwest ISD, as well as a handful of major bond elections.
All Bexar County voters will get to weigh in on a nearly $1 billion bond for the Alamo Colleges District. Meanwhile in East Central ISD, where voters rejected big revenue measures last November, the district is coming back with a smaller ask.
