The San Antonio Area Foundation announced its CEO Marjie French is retiring from her position, effective Thursday.
Her retirement, announced by the charitable organization on Wednesday, comes more than four years after French took the position in 2019.
Lisa Brunsvold, the Area Foundation’s vice president of development and donor services, has been appointed as the interim CEO until a permanent replacement is announced.
The Area Foundation manages more than 500 charitable funds for nonprofits, with more than $1 billion in assets.
French is retiring to spend more time with her husband and family, according to the announcement.
“I am incredibly proud to be a part of the San Antonio Area Foundation’s history,” French said in the press release. “The organization continues to have a tremendous impact in our community and is in a great position to celebrate 60 years serving as the community’s most trusted and impactful philanthropic partner.”
According to the foundation, during French’s tenure, she played a key role in securing funds for nonprofits serving the most vulnerable San Antonians during the Covid-19 pandemic, and in growing partnerships with national funders.
French also led the organization through a strategic planning process, “charting a course for the next five years,” the Area Foundation said in a press release.
The philanthropic organization said it will inform the public of the progress in its search for the next CEO.
