Following the overturn of a garbage truck over a portion of the Salado Creek Greenway, the city is closing a section of the trail intermittently for clean-up.

The closures will go on until mid-August, according to the city.

The closures will take place near Walker Ranch and McAllister Park, as well as mile marker 925, Parks and Recreation spokeswoman Connie Swann confirmed.

On July 25, a garbage truck rolled over and fell onto the trail on the city’s north side.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, the driver of a City of San Antonio garbage truck tried to make a right turn on the U.S. Highway 281 access road to Wurzbach Parkway, but hit a cement wall on the left side of the roadway.

Police said the truck leaned on the cement wall until it fell off the bridge into the ditch onto the trail.

“The complainant was extracted out of the garbage truck and sustained serious bodily injury. The complainant was transported to a local hospital in critical, but stable condition,” said SAPD Spokesman Ricardo Guzman.

The crash is still under investigation, SAPD said, and there are no charges pending.
