San Antonio ISD’s specialized and magnet schools are leading the way for innovation in the district. Families who want to take advantage of new opportunities like the Advanced Learning Academy (ALA) and some of the district’s highest achieving programs like Young Women’s Leadership Academy (YWLA) can apply Nov. 1, 2016 through Jan. 31, 2017.
(Note: YWLA applications close Dec. 15, 2016)
Applications are now being accepted for students going into sixth or ninth grade next year, as well as students in kindergarten, pre-kindergarten, and other grades.
For those curious about the options available for students inside and outside the district, SAISD will host its annual Magnet & Specialized Schools Fair on the evening of Nov. 2 at the Alamo Convocation Center, located at 110 Tuleta Drive.

SAISD’s magnet programs are located on eight campuses throughout the district. They are industry-focused and align with Alamo Colleges programs that help put students on the fast-track to the careers of their choice.
Through Advanced Placement courses, International Baccalaureate, and dual credit courses, students can accumulate up to 45 hours of college credit to further expedite their entry into the workforce or continued education.
Specialized schools are those in which, for the most part, the entire school takes part in innovative formats such as dual-language, early college, advanced learning, or single gender programs. SAISD has 19 specialized schools with various ages and grades served.
