I am a dedicated professional, wife, and mother of two. I’ve spent the past 19 years working for a major health insurance company, where I have gained experience in multiple roles. Currently, I serve as a Customer Service Appeals Advocate, where I work to resolve issues and ensure better outcomes for those I serve. My husband is a disabled Air Force veteran.  He served over 15 combat deployments. We have been together for 15 years. We bought our house in Kirby 7 years ago. My decision to run for District 2 Trustee is deeply personal. As a mother of two boys who attend Hopkins Elementary, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges my oldest son faces academically. My youngest struggles socially and emotionally. I’ve also witnessed the constraints that teachers, paraprofessionals, and staff are working under. These experiences have driven me to seek change. I believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, and every educator should have the support they need to help students succeed. I am running because I want to be a voice for our children, educators, and families. I am committed to advocating for the resources and solutions that will help create a better, more supportive learning environment for everyone in our community.

List any previous experience in the community or in the education field, such as participation in parent teacher associations, local boards and commissions or neighborhood associations.

Over the past two years, I have had the privilege of serving on the Hopkins Hawks PTO Board as Fundraiser Coordinator, where I have been instrumental in organizing and overseeing events that foster a sense of community within the school. Furthermore, I volunteered as a key spouse for my husband’s squadron during his active duty tenure, providing support to military families. My commitment to service extends far beyond my local community, as evidenced by my volunteer work with organizations such as March of Dimes, Junior Achievement, and Toys for Tots. In the workplace, I have actively participated in initiatives like the diversity committee and the Blue Bear program through my employer, demonstrating my passion for promoting diversity and inclusivity. This is my first time running for a elected office.

If elected, you’ll likely be facing a budget deficit and the possibility of funding hamstrung by the state. How would you approach these issues? Where should the district turn to save money if needed?

It’s essential to conduct a thorough review, making deliberate data driven decisions so that it will influence both the present and future of the district. We must prioritize reductions that least impact direct student education, thereby preserving positions that provide classroom support. We must continue initiatives that result in more state funding.

What do you think the district’s biggest challenges are in the coming years, and what should be the board’s top areas of focus?

The district will soon face pivotal challenges, including adapting educational frameworks to meet evolving needs, rectifying funding inequities, and strategically integrating technology. As students’ learning styles and requirements become increasingly varied, the district must commit to tailoring educational experiences and providing comprehensive mental health support. Fiscal constraints may impede the district’s ability to deliver these services uniformly, particularly in disadvantaged areas, highlighting the imperative of balanced resource allocation. Moreover, the burgeoning role of digital learning necessitates state-of-the-art technology infrastructure and ongoing professional development in technology integration for educators. To surmount these challenges and guarantee all students access to an exceptional education, the board should prioritize inclusivity, community outreach, fiscal prudence, and staff enrichment.
