Ortega is a lifelong resident of El Paso who earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, a master’s degree in education and doctorate from the University of Texas at El Paso. She is currently a faculty member and dissertation coordinator at the American College of Education and an instructor at UTEP in the Women’s and Gender Studies Department.
