Hear from the candidate

Please tell voters about yourself.

I am a proud native of District 2, where I was born and raised, raised my children, and where I have dedicated my career to education and community empowerment. I have spent over two decades working in education, serving as a teacher, instructional leader, and now as Principal in Residence at Essence Preparatory Public School.

My academic background includes a B.A. in Political Science from the University of the Incarnate Word, an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix (online), and an M.A. in Educational Leadership from Trinity University.

My life was profoundly shaped by the support of my community after the unexpected loss of my brother, and I have made it my mission to give back. I believe that education, advocacy, and strong leadership can transform communities. Running for City Council is my next step in ensuring that District 2 residents have a leader who listens, understands, and fights for real solutions.

List any previous experience in government or participation on local boards, commissions, or neighborhood associations.

My experience includes collaborating with district leaders on education reform, school improvement initiatives, and programs that address student and family needs. While I have not previously run for elected office, I have been actively engaged in shaping policies that impact education, youth development, and community empowerment. I have served on leadership teams responsible for implementing strategic initiatives and ensuring accountability in schools.

My experience navigating bureaucratic systems and advocating for equitable access to resources has prepared me to lead effectively on the City Council. I understand how to bridge the gap between residents and decision-makers to create meaningful change.

In the city’s 2024-2025 budget survey, residents ranked homelessness, streets, housing and animal care services among their top concerns for the city to address. Which issues do you consider a top concern for District 2 and how would you work to address them in your first 100 days?

Homelessness, affordable housing, and infrastructure are top concerns for District 2. Many residents struggle with rising housing costs, limited access to essential services, and deteriorating streets. In my first 100 days, I will prioritize:

 ● Homelessness & Housing: Partnering with local organizations to expand access to transitional housing and mental health services. I will push for stronger tenant protections and advocate for investments in affordable housing.

● Infrastructure & Streets: Conducting a district-wide assessment of road conditions and prioritizing immediate repairs. I will work with city departments to accelerate street maintenance projects and address drainage concerns in flood-prone areas.

● Community Engagement: Hosting town halls and listening sessions to ensure residents have a voice in shaping policy solutions. District 2 deserves leadership that is proactive, transparent, and committed to tangible results. I will work tirelessly to bring resources and solutions that improve the quality of life for all residents.

In a crowded field of council candidates, what differentiates you from the others?

I bring a lifetime of firsthand experience growing up, working, and advocating in District 2. My career in education has equipped me with the skills to lead, listen, and take action—especially when it comes to addressing systemic inequities. I have spent years directly working with families and youth, tackling challenges like poverty, housing instability, and access to quality education.

I understand the power of community-driven solutions and have built my career on bringing people together to solve problems. My leadership is rooted in action, not just rhetoric. I have successfully implemented programs that uplift and empower, and I will do the same on the City Council. I am not a politician—I am a lifelong advocate who knows what it takes to fight for real change.

If elected, how do you plan to solicit input and feedback from residents in your district?

Transparency and accessibility will be at the core of my leadership. I will establish regular “Community Check-Ins”—monthly meetings in different neighborhoods to hear directly from residents. I will also launch a District 2 Advisory Council made up of community members who will help shape policy priorities.

Beyond in-person meetings, I will utilize technology to keep residents engaged. I will create an online Community Feedback Portal where residents can submit concerns, ideas, and track progress on district initiatives.

Additionally, I will hold “Office Hours on the Block”—bringing City Hall to the community by setting up mobile office hours at local businesses, schools, and gathering spaces. Residents deserve a council member who is visible, accessible, and truly listens. I will ensure that every voice in District 2 is heard and valued.
