Kleberg is the former associate director of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, which raises private money to conserve land and support the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. He is a member of the family that owns the sprawling King Ranch in South Texas. The Texas land commissioner oversees the General Land Office and is responsible for state-owned land, including administrative authority over the Alamo, as well as disaster recovery.
