Why should voters choose you?
Voters should choose me because I bring vast legal experience and also unique life experience to my work. I was a single teen mom who got a GED in 1995 and went on to graduate from UTSA in 1999, become a public schoolteacher in SAISD and return to St. Mary’s University for my second career in law, as a mother of two. I worked my way through school waiting tables, taking a full load of classes and taking care of my responsibilities. My legal experience and my life experience provide a valuable perspective to my work. I strive to treat everyone in my courtroom with dignity and an even temperament, and I work very hard to provide due process to those accused of crimes by running an efficient court.
What do you see as the top challenge facing our local court system, and how should it be addressed?
I think a top challenge is how to allocate resources for mental health. More resources and focus on this issue could have a great positive impact on the court system. I currently preside over a DWI treatment court, and I see the great benefit of helping to address root causes of behaviors.
