Please tell voters about yourself.

My name is Amanda Jones, and I am a proud Comal alum and resident. I graduated
with a degree in nutrition and for the past 15 years have successfully worked in the
pediatric medical nutrition industry. I am married to my husband, Logan Jones, and we
have three beautiful girls in the Pieper feeder pattern. I have a heart and passion for
volunteering in the Comal ISD community. I was elected to be your Comal ISD SMD 6
Board Trustee in 2022 and was selected by fellow board members to serve as the
School Board Treasurer for the past two years. I remain invested in the path of growing
greatness for our district. During the past three years, the Board of Trustees and I hired and continue to evaluate our current superintendent. We created and adopted a new vision, mission, motto, and goals for Comal ISD while monitoring the success of the district. We review and adopt policies for effectiveness, remain fiscally responsible with tax-payer dollars, and continue to advocate and communicate with the community. For more information, please visit www.re-electjones.com.
  1. CONSISTENCY with the board is key.

List any previous experience in the community or in the education field, such as participation in parent teacher associations, local boards and commissions or neighborhood associations.

First and foremost, I am a mother to three children in Comal ISD. Because of this, I wanted to give back to the community and the district. Prior to being elected in 2022, I served on multiple committees within the district and community including the Bond Committee in 2019, Mental Health Taskforce, Comal Education Foundation, Facilities Improvement, PTAs at local/district level, Clothes Closet Coordinator, youth organizations, Pieper mascot/logo design, and more. Seeing the community come together at various events around the area will always be a joy to be a part of.Along with these responsibilities, as your current Comal ISD SMD 6 Trustee and Treasurer, I have now also taken the time on different committees to help serve the Comal Education Foundation, Comal ISD Council of PTA, the Auditing Committee, and School Health Advisory Council. I do routine walks with the Superintendent and cabinet members to get a close look at our schools and our communities. Currently, I am focused on advocating for public education at the state legislative level.

If elected, you’ll likely be facing a budget deficit and the possibility of funding hamstrung by the state. How would you approach these issues?

As an engaged community and current board member, I remain diligent in what is going on at the state level, regarding public funding for our schools. I converse with our district and community members about the importance of public funding and will continue to work with local and state representatives to help them understand Comal ISD’s value in our area and challenges relevant to our district needs.  Most recently, I was at the Capitol in Austin, TX to rally with other parents, students, and administration across the state to advocate for public funding. With re-election, I will continue the push for public education funding, while working with and supporting Dr. Chapman, the Comal ISD team, our board of trustees and members of our community, to best support students’ needs for academic achievement.

What do you think the district’s biggest challenges are in the coming years, and what should be the board’s top areas of focus?

  1. Public Funding for Academic Achievement: Continue the push for public funding dollars in our district and state. Work with Comal ISD to provide opportunities for all, focusing on students’ current and future needs to be college, career, and/or military ready.
  2. Continuing Fiscal Responsibility with a focus on Teacher Compensation: Seeking re-election, this is a critical part of our district to maintain the culture in Comal. There is a direct correlation between our teachers and our student outcomes. By continuing to be fiscally conservative and examine ways to receive and retain our teachers with competitive compensation, we can continue to grow greatness in Comal.
  3. Growth: As a long-time Comal resident and experienced board member, I will use both attributes to monitor our fast-growing district. It is vital we keep connecting with developers to maximize opportunities while continuing to maintain fiscal responsibility of building/occupying campuses for long-term use.
