Maverick Music Festival organizers have upped the ante for its fourth year with the announcement that the lively psychedelic alternative rockers The Flaming Lips will join hip hop group Public Enemy as headliners during the April 8-9 festival in La Villita Historic Arts Village.
The first batch of bands, which also includes The Church and The Drums, kicks off early-bird ticket sales; a limited number are available here. Two-day, general admission passes are $69, VIP passes are available for $169.
“From its inception, Maverick Music Fest has continued to evolve and generate unprecedented strength in the community,” stated Maverick founder Blayne Tucker in a news release. “Even as we grow, we strive to emphasize the substance of the community and culture in this event. There is no other festival like Maverick, because there is no other city like San Antonio.”
Tucker and his team will release several more batches of band announcements in coming weeks.
The caliber and diversity of performers has increased steadily for the locally-produced, independent festival, which is generally billed as a rock concert but also includes hip hop, folk, techno, and jazz artists. Saturday night tickets sold out last year, filling La Villita with hundreds of music fans.
