Author Paola Ramos visited San Antonio to discuss her newest book “DEFECTORS: The Rise of the Latino Far Right and What It Means for America” as part of the San Antonio Book Festival’s Get Lit Author Series.

San Antonio Report’s Managing Editor Laura Garcia moderated the Oct. 7 discussion at Texas Public Radio, which was hosted in partnership with Alamo Colleges District.

Copies of the book were sold by Nowhere Bookshop before the packed event, which Ramos signed for attendees after the conversation.

The book released in September is a deeply reported exploration of how race, identity and political trauma have influenced the rise in far-right sentiment among Latinos, and how this group can shape American politics.

Ramos is an Emmy award-winning journalist who contributes for Telemundo News and MSNBC; she was also the Deputy Director of Hispanic Media for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, a political appointee during the Obama Administration, and served in President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign.

She’s also the daughter of famed Spanish-language news anchor Jorge Ramos.
