Texas A&M University–San Antonio is gearing up to host Festival de Cascarones once again, welcoming the entire community to its campus for the official finale of Fiesta San Antonio. The beloved, family-friendly event is free to attend, pet-friendly and packed with live music, food, games and carnival rides. Approximately 6,500 people are expected to attend.
The festival will be held Sunday, April 26, from 1 to 8 p.m.
“This is the 14th year A&M–San Antonio has hosted Festival de Cascarones, and it has truly become a cherished tradition for the South Side and the entire San Antonio community,” said President Salvador Hector Ochoa. “We look forward to opening our campus to our neighbors and celebrating with them.”
A diverse lineup of performers will take the stage throughout the day, including emerging country artist Vinny Tovar, Latin music veteran David Olivarez, and regional Mexican favorite Lucky Joe. Headlining the event is Jaime Olivares y Los Mensajeros Del Sabor, known for delivering lively Latin tropical performances.
Beyond the music, guests can explore dozens of vendor booths offering arts and crafts, desserts and a variety of food options. Among the returning vendors is Dominique Sauceda of Home Team Hot Dogs and More, a South Side, family-owned business that has participated in the festival since 2016. The company operates food trucks and booths across the city, serving favorites such as tacos, nachos, funnel cakes, and hot dogs.
“We love being part of Festival de Cascarones,” Sauceda said. “It’s a great opportunity to connect with the community. We see familiar faces every year, and it’s rewarding to know people leave happy after stopping by our booth.”
Gloria Rangel, owner of the veteran-owned food truck Smokey Boyz, is also returning for another year.
“The atmosphere is always welcoming, and the turnout is consistently impressive,” Rangel said. “The University staff and volunteers make it a wonderful experience for vendors. We’re grateful to be part of this event year after year.”
A new addition to this year’s festival is a wine garden featuring selections from Casa Guipzot, a boutique wine shop and tasting room located on San Antonio’s West Side and in the Historic La Villita Arts Village. Guests can purchase two wine samples for $10, with additional wine available by the glass or bottle.
Student Body President Caroleena E. Mancilla noted that the festival offers more than entertainment.
“Festival de Cascarones gives the community a chance to experience the pride and energy of the South Side during Fiesta,” Mancilla said. “It also allows student organizations to raise funds that support their members and initiatives. It’s an event that brings people together while directly benefiting our students.”
