Centro San Antonio‘s 15th annual Downtown “Best” Awards recognized the people, places, and events that have had economic and cultural impacts on San Antonio’s downtown. Aside from the 14 award categories, Ben Brewer of Brewer Urban Management Consulting, Jorge Cortez of Mi Tierra, and Suzanne Scott of the San Antonio River Authority, received the “Best Honors” for their devotion to downtown.

The most anticipated award, Downtowner of the Year, went to Kit Goldsbury, the mastermind behind the Pearl Brewery development. Bill Shown, managing director of real estate for Goldsbury’s Silver Ventures, which owns the 22-acre Pearl Brewery property, accepted the award Tuesday night on his behalf.

Brazilian dancers greeted attendees as they climbed the stairs to the front entrance of the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts Tuesday evening, and when the clock struck 7:30, the costumed women danced their way into the building and through the crowd to the H-E-B Performance Hall stage. Once the dancers cleared the stage, the Youth Orchestra of San Antonio (YOSA) enthralled the audience with a couple of songs before the emcees of the night, KSAT 12‘s Jeff Roper and Fiona Gorostiza, came on stage.

Between awards, Ballet San Antonio danced to the opening of the third act of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, and Carmen Tafolla, the 2015 Texas State Poet Laureate, humored the audience with her performance. See a full list of this year’s awardees below.
