BBVA Compass announced Monday that it has appointed banking industry veteran Ryan Parker as new its San Antonio CEO. Parker will lead commercial banking and small business operations and BBVA Compass’ local global wealth team, and manage a local advisory board.
Parker takes the reins of San Antonio’s seventh largest bank just after the institution relocated its area corporate offices from 200 Concord Plaza to the Weston Centre. In March, the bank announced its presence in downtown’s tech corridor by means of a bright blue lighted sign atop the city’s tallest office building, and opened a new retail banking branch on the building’s first floor last month.
“San Antonio is an exciting market to lead, and I have a great team in place to help create opportunities for our local clients,” Parker stated. “There are so many things happening in the market, including the current tech wave and entrepreneurial growth. BBVA Compass is committed to cultivating an environment that will continue to fuel economic prosperity for this vibrant city and our clients.”
A banking industry veteran of 11 years, Parker joined BBVA Compass in 2012 as a corporate relationship manager. According to the statement released Monday, he has been the bank’s market leader in total commercial production and has assisted in overall strategies in client relationship development.
Parker was previously the bank’s commercial banking manager.
“[He] has shown time and again that he’s up for the challenge of moving the bank forward toward a bright future,” stated BBVA Compass Texas Regional Executive Jeff Dudderar.
“He knows San Antonio well and has called the Alamo City home for 16 years. Our clients trust him, and he’s built a solid team that has strengthened our local operations.”
Before joining BBVA Compass, Parker served as vice president of commercial lending for Lone Star National Bank for two years and an assistant relationship manager for Frost Bank before that.
Parker currently serves on the board of United Communities of San Antonio, an interfaith group that works to promote understanding and respect to eliminate bullying, prejudice, and racism. He holds a bachelor’s of business administration degree in finance from UTSA.
Parker replaces former San Antonio CEO Andrea Smith, who last September returned to the bank in Birmingham, Ala., where the BBVA Compass is based.
Under the leadership of CEO Onur Genç, BBVA Compass operates 657 branches nationwide, including 342 in Texas, employing more than 10,000 people, with 200 in San Antonio.
