As families prepare for the return to class, a variety of back-to-school events across San Antonio offer free school supplies, health services and more resources to help students start the year off right.

Some events will also offer essentials like school uniforms and fresh haircuts. Watch out for updates to the Report’s resource list.

Saturday, July 19

Southeast Baptist Church Back to School Bash

Free school supplies while they last, plus carnival-style games and access to the church’s clothing closet. Community outreach vendors will be on site, and students must be present to receive supplies.

KLRN Back to School Bash

Families can enjoy free games, activities, face painting, and performances, plus a special visit from PBS Kids’ Rosie. KLRN will give away 800 backpacks and school supplies on a first-come, first-served basis. A resource fair and an educator station with supplies will also be available.

IDEA Backpacks for Bright Futures

The first 500 children at each event will receive a free backpack filled with school supplies. Events are open to all school-aged children in the community. Kids must be present with a guardian. Local vendors and registration assistance for IDEA schools will also be available.

Back to School Utility Assistance Event (Precinct 3)

Families can enroll in utility assistance, receive backpacks and back-to-school immunizations. Appointments are required. Families must live in Bexar County’s Precinct 3, meet federal poverty level income criteria, have proof of U.S. citizenship, ID, proof of income from past 30 days and provide a current utility bill.

Back-to-School Extravaganza (Precinct 4)
Commissioner Tommy Calvert will host a Precinct 4 Back-to-School Extravaganza featuring music, food trucks, free haircuts and free snacks. The event includes opportunities for immunizations and health screenings, plus backpack, laptop and 25 lb. produce bag giveaways — pre-registration is required. This event is geared toward students attending Judson ISD.

SAC Black Student Association Back to School Bash

Free haircuts, manicures, music, food and giveaways sponsored by A Fresh Foundation. San Antonio Food Bank will also be distributing food.

Boerne ISD – Back to School Resource Rally

Get ready for the school year with registration help, free school supply sign-ups, immunizations, vision screenings, transportation info and family resources. The event will also include a BISD job fair and appearances from dozens of local organizations and service providers, including CommuniCare, H-E-B, San Antonio Food Bank, ABCD Pediatrics and many more.

Back to School event

Organized by Texas Rep. Liz Campos, there will be 500 free backpacks filled with school supplies for children who attend the event, plus free snow cones while they last. School vaccination and immunization will also be available.

Elevate and Educate Back to School Wellness Fair

District 1’s Back-to-School Bash

Councilmember Sukh Kaur and the District 1 team will host their third annual Back-to-School Bash alongside Sen. José Menéndez, Rep. Diego Bernal and Bexar County Commissioner Justin Rodriguez. The event is open to the public and includes free backpacks, school supplies, dental screenings, immunizations, music and activities for kids. Attendees are encouraged to register through Facebook or by email.

5th Annual Back2School Bash Backpack Giveaway/Show & Shine

San Antonio Philharmonic Inaugural Back-to-School Event

The Philharmonic will host its first-ever back-to-school event featuring free backpacks filled with school supplies and a complimentary ticket to a 2025–26 Classics concert for each student and their parents.

Partner organizations will provide services such as free student haircuts, groceries from the San Antonio Food Bank, clothing and shoe support from San Antonio Threads and bike tune-ups from Westside Bike Shop.

The event is free and open to all San Antonio families.
