In an era defined by political turbulence and nonstop news cycles, understanding what truly matters in Washington has never felt more urgent — or more challenging. Katty Kay, award-winning journalist and BBC Studios U.S. special correspondent, brings insight, context, and clarity to that chaos.

On Tuesday, Feb. 3, Trinity University, in partnership with Bank of America, will host Kay as part of its Policy Maker Breakfast Series at the Mays Family Center, located at the Witte Museum. In her presentation, “Decoding D.C.,” Kay will draw on decades of reporting on American politics to offer business and organizational leaders a grounded, objective interpretation of today’s rapidly shifting political landscape. The event will run from 7 to 9 a.m. CST and tickets must be purchased in advance.

Kay’s presentation is anchored in a question on the minds of many leaders: “With so much upheaval in Washington, what does it all mean for you and your organization?”

She will explore why these conditions make it increasingly difficult for leaders to distinguish between political theater and meaningful policy, and why trusted, objective analysis is more essential than ever. Beyond explaining what’s happening, Kay will provide attendees with practical frameworks for assessing the significance of political developments, helping them focus on signals that matter rather than headlines that fade.

Few reporters are better positioned to guide audiences through that complexity. Kay has chronicled some of the most significant developments in American and global politics as an award-winning journalist and U.S. special correspondent for BBC Studios. She hosts documentaries across the U.S. and Europe, co-hosts the popular podcast “The Rest Is Politics: US with Anthony Scaramucci,” and interviews global changemakers in her Influential series.

Her relationships across both sides of the aisle provide rare access to the people shaping national decisions. With her years of reporting internationally from Europe to the Middle East, Kay brings a global perspective that deepens her analysis.

Central to her message is the importance of focusing on developments with lasting impact. For business leaders making long-term decisions, understanding structural political trends is far more valuable than reacting to daily controversies. Kay translates the noise of Washington into actionable insights not just for policy experts, but for anyone navigating the economic, regulatory, and cultural forces shaping business today.

Kay is also a New York Times bestselling author of six books — including “The Confidence Code and Womenomics” — four of which explore women’s leadership and confidence.

In a world reshaped by rapid political change, Kay’s presentation offers essential guidance for understanding how decisions in Washington influence the future of business, society, and international affairs.
