Scott Brister is from Waco earned his law degree from Harvard Law School. He was appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to serve as the first chief justice on the newly created 15th Court of Appeals. Brister previously served on the Texas Supreme Court, on Houston’s First and Fourteenth Courts of Appeals, and as a state district court judge in Harris County. He also worked in private practice doing appellate litigation, and chaired the Texas Commission on Public School Finance. Brister is unopposed in the Republican primary, and faces one Democrat in November.
