1. Please tell voters about yourself.

My name is Christine “Chris” Castillo. I am 59 years old, a lifelong Bexar County
resident, born, raised, and still reside on the South Side. I graduated from Wheatley High School (Brackenridge) in 1985 and began my career with the Bexar County District Clerk’s Office in 1986.

My education and professional experience are rooted entirely in this office. I retired in 2019 after 33 years of service, bringing deep institutional knowledge and hands-on experience in almost every department. Following retirement, I worked for the Texas Attorney General’s Office for a year and a half before resigning to run for District Clerk in 2022.

In the race of 2022, I advanced to the runoff and narrowly missed victory. I am running again because this office remains close to my heart, because experience matters, service matters and Bexar County deserves a District Clerk who knows the job and is ready to lead on day one. This is not an “on-the-job training” position.

2. Please describe the relevant work experience you bring to this job, and how you would approach the role.

I bring 33 years of hands-on experience within the Bexar County District Clerk’s Office, having worked my way up from an entry-level clerk to supervisor, and ultimately to Division Chief. I spent 15 years as a supervisor and the final eight years of my career as a Division Chief, overseeing staff, managing operations, and handling departmental fiscal responsibilities.

Throughout my career, I worked in nearly every department of the office, giving me a
comprehensive understanding of its day-to-day operations, from accepting and processing filings such as divorce petitions to managing budgets and ensuring compliance with record retention and court procedures. This experience gives me both a frontline and leadership perspective on what it takes to run the office efficiently and responsibly.

My approach as District Clerk is simple: put people first, run the office efficiently, and lead with experience, accountability, and service. I believe in supporting staff, modernizing processes to make it convenient for customers, and ensuring the office operates with accuracy, transparency, and respect for the public and the courts. I am ready to step into this role on day one and serve the people of Bexar County with fairness, professionalism, and integrity.

3. Why did you decide to seek this office? And why did you decide to run under the party affiliation that you chose?

I decided to seek the office of District Clerk because this work has been a part of my life for more than three decades. I spent years inside the District Clerk’s Office, learning every aspect of the job and seeing firsthand how important this office is to the people it serves. That experience gave me both the passion and the purpose to run. I know what works, what doesn’t, and how strong leadership can make a real difference for families, attorneys, and the courts. Experience matters in this role, and I am prepared to lead on day one.

I chose to run as a Democrat because it reflects my values and my upbringing. My family has been Democratic for generations, and as I began my career in public service, I found that Democratic principles of fairness, opportunity, and service to the community aligned with my own.

That said, the District Clerk’s Office is a nonpartisan service office. As District Clerk, I will ensure that every person is treated with fairness, dignity, and respect, regardless of party affiliation. The doors of this office must be open and welcoming to everyone we serve.

4. How would you (or how do you, if already elected) solicit input and feedback from constituents?

If elected, I will lead with openness, transparency, and communication. I believe an effective District Clerk must be accessible to the community and willing to listen. I will maintain a true open-door policy and encourage ongoing dialogue with the public.
Social media will be an important tool to keep constituents informed about office updates, procedural changes, and services that affect them. Clear communication helps build trust and ensures the public knows what to expect when interacting with the office.

In addition, I would reintroduce customer service feedback cards that allow visitors to share their experiences and suggestions. I have seen how simple feedback tools can provide valuable insight into what is working and where improvements are needed. Listening to the people we serve will be a priority, because public service works best when the community’s voice is heard.
