Jason Cahill is a U.S. Navy veteran who runs his own oil and gas company. He lives in Boerne. He’s in a crowded Republican primary to replace U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (R-Dripping Springs), who is running for Attorney General instead of seeking reelection in 2026.

1. Please tell voters about yourself.
I am 46 years old, U.S. Navy veteran and Chief Executive Officer with more than 20 years of experience leading, coordinating, and overseeing oil and gas production. I joined the U.S. Navy while attending Texas Tech University and served as a Navy Intelligence Specialist, deploying as part of the first wave of military assets to the Middle East following 9/11.
I later held senior leadership roles within the U.S. Intelligence Community, overseeing intelligence professionals supporting the U.S. Navy, Department of Defense (DoD), Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). After completing my military service, I returned to Texas and founded a successful oil and gas business in the Permian Basin that continues to support my family. My wife and I have lived in the Texas Hill Country for the past 17 years, where we are raising our four children in Boerne.
2. Briefly describe your top policy priorities.
My top priorities are to restore fiscal discipline to the federal government by aggressively cutting wasteful spending, reducing chronic budget deficits, and paying down the national debt so future generations are not burdened with a bankrupt nation. The federal government must refocus on its core responsibilities, ending reckless spending on ineffective and unnecessary programs both foreign and domestic and instead invest in critical infrastructure that directly benefits Americans, such as water resources, energy reliability, and public safety.
Equally important, I am committed to using every federal oversight and enforcement tool available to identify, investigate, and eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse of taxpayer dollars. Billions of dollars are lost each year to mismanagement and corruption, and that failure erodes public trust and weakens our economy.
Taxpayers deserve accountability, transparency, and measurable results for every dollar spent. By enforcing strict oversight, demanding results, and prioritizing smart, strategic investments, we can rebuild confidence in government, strengthen our fiscal foundation, and leave the next generation a stronger, more secure country.
3. What should Congress be doing to rein in inflation and/or stabilize/boost the economy?
Nearly every major challenge facing the United States can be traced to Congress’s reckless and uncontrolled spending. As a business owner who understands both earning revenue and meeting payroll, I know that long-term success requires living within your means, not endlessly borrowing to cover poor decisions. Congress must be held to the same standard as American families and small businesses by prioritizing responsible budgeting, disciplined spending, and real accountability.
Printing more money to mask runaway deficits only fuels inflation, weakens the economy, and passes an unsustainable burden to the next generation. It is time for Congress to stop governing by debt and start making tough, responsible choices that restore fiscal stability, protect taxpayers, and strengthen the nation’s economic future.
4. What should Congress be doing to reform immigration laws?
The challenge with immigration is not a shortage of laws, but the failure of the executive branch to enforce them under Joe Biden’s administration. In Congress, I will champion strong border security and fully support President Trump’s national security agenda, using every available tool to uphold the law and protect the safety of the American people.
5. At a time when the White House is asserting more control over national security and spending without Congress’ input, how would you handle disagreements over the division of power?
As a veteran of the wars on terror, I understand the importance of strong, decisive leadership when danger is imminent and the stakes are high. I applaud President Trump and Secretary Rubio’s strong foreign policy posture, from settling conflicts in Africa and the Indian Subcontinent to the swift and efficient capture of Maduro in Venezuela.
While Congress must have a seat at the table to ensure America is not trapped in prolonged foreign entanglements, I trust President Trump to promote peace through strength.
6. The past year has brought tremendous uncertainty to many Americans surrounding rising health insurance premiums and lack of access to medical care near their homes. What do you believe Congress should be doing to make health care affordable and accessible to residents in your state?
The solution is straightforward, though it will require political courage: the (Un)Affordable Care Act must be repealed, and our broken, convoluted federal healthcare system fundamentally reformed. Excessive government intervention in healthcare has driven up costs, limited choices, stifled innovation, and weakened the vital relationship between patients and their physicians.
A one size fits all federal approach has failed to deliver affordable, high-quality care for American families. Congress should instead restore free market principles to the healthcare system by encouraging competition, expanding consumer choice, and allowing innovation to lower costs and improve outcomes.
At the same time, a strong and compassionate safety net must be preserved for Americans who truly need assistance, ensuring access to care without trapping families in an inefficient system. By empowering patients and doctors rather than bureaucrats, we can build a healthcare system that is more affordable, more effective, and more responsive to individual needs.
