State Rep. Barbara Gervin-Hawkins (D-San Antonio) was briefly hospitalized Monday during the hectic final stretch of the state legislative session.
Her office said that she began feeling ill and sought medical treatment from a doctor at the state capitol, who recommended that she go to the emergency room for further assessment.
“Fortunately, my illness was relatively brief, but I also discovered I was severely dehydrated,” Gervin-Hawkins said in a statement.
Gervin-Hawkins, 71, has represented Texas House District 120 on San Antonio’s East Side since 2017.
“I want to assure the public that I am receiving great care and am focused on my immediate recovery,” she said Monday night. “My health and well-being are a priority for me and my family, but my commitment to serving you, my constituents, remains a top priority.”
As of Tuesday morning, it was unclear whether she had been able to return to work.
“I am grateful to my colleagues for their understanding and support, and I appreciate the prayers and well wishes I have received,” she said in the statement. “I am anxious to get back to the capitol to continue to serve.”
