Arnoldo Salinas was a teacher and administrator at Judson ISD for more than 25 years before being appointed to the Single Member District 5 in July of 2024.

Please tell voters about yourself.

My name is Arnoldo Salinas, born and raised in Rio Grande City. I am 82 years old.

List any previous experience in the community or in the education field, such as
participation in parent teacher associations, local boards and commissions or
neighborhood associations.

Thirty years of experience in public education as a teacher and administrator. Having eight years experience on Judson ISD’ school board, I felt I would like to continue serving as a board member. I was also encouraged by community members who know me. I have lived in the Judson community over 50 years.

If elected, you’ll likely be facing a budget deficit and the possibility of funding
hamstrung by the state. How would you approach these issues?

Like many other school districts, Judson is facing a budget deficit. We must work on our fiscal accountability. At the present, Judson has started having budget proposals for the 2025-26 budget.

What do you think the district’s biggest challenges are in the coming years, and what should be the board’s top areas of focus?

Big challenges will continue on our deficit. Teacher retention and continued compensation of all our employees should be a priority at all levels. We should focus on:

  • building and supporting leadership at all levels
  • community and personnel support
  • reduce teacher turnover rate
  • equitable resources and support for all campuses
