San Antonio’s City Council District 1 encompasses most of downtown and stretches north to include much of the area between I-10 and U.S. 281.

Councilwoman Sukh Kaur (D1), who unseated an incumbent to win the seat in 2023, faces nine challengers in her first reelection race. If no candidate takes at least 50% of the vote on May 3, the top two finishers will advance to a June 7 runoff.

All of San Antonio’s 10 City Council seats will be on the May 3 municipal election ballot, along with a crowded mayoral race.

Council members elected this year will serve a four-year term, thanks to new longer council limits approved by voters in November.

The job will pay $70,200 per year.

Candidate information comes from candidate websites, filing documents and other sources.
