Please tell voters about yourself.

My name is Rose Requenez Hill born and raised here on the eastside of San Antonio in District 2. I am a mother, wife and grandmother. I am retired and spent most of my career in the corporate world of Insurance and the Mortgage Industry. I come from a local minority family owned business called Lara’s Grocery Store in Government Hill. I have 35 years experience and skills of a community leader and organizer.

I am an advocate of Education. Government Hill Alliance fought to save Pershing Elementary from being closed and we were successful. I have been at City Hall fighting on issues that have had great concern in our communities such as the closing of (5) small local businesses the Horse and Carriage Industry. Compassionate and committed to public safety and community engagement, Economic Development and Infrastructure.

List any previous experience in government or participation on local boards, commissions, or neighborhood associations.

I currently sit on the SAISD Bond Committee. I currently sit on the SAISD Advisory Committee.

I served on the City of San Antonio 2017, Bond Committee. Served on the SAISD Council of PTA as a Board Officer for 2 years and trainer.

I hold the position of President of Government Hill Alliance for almost 10 years serving my community. I work closely with City of San Antonio leaders and staff and elected officials. We were the first neighborhood to begin the Dial-A-Trailer program with the City. I work very close with our SAPD Saffe officer to help keep crime down in our community. We have two neighborhood clean ups a year. We host our National Night out once a year along with SAPD and neighbors.

We have helped homes be rehabilitated and homes painted. The Alliance and the City of San Antonio gave $50,000.00 to put roofs on four homes. Thanks to a developer who gave the home to the city and was put on a vacant lot in the historical area. We hold monthly meetings where we hear the concerns and issues of our community. I support our local small minority businesses and continue to market them thru our neighborhood meetings. We bring valuable information from the city to keep neighbors educated and informed.

I ran for District 2, City Council in May of 2023.

In the city’s 2024-2025 budget survey, residents ranked homelessness, streets, housing and animal care services among their top concerns for the city to address. Which issues do you consider a top concern for District 2 and how would you work to address them in your first 100 days?

  • Affordable housing: To include that for our seniors as well as the younger generation of working families. The City of San Antonio is growing at a rapid pace. We need to find affordable apartments. The city needs to buy up more of these vacant lots. Let Habitat for Humanity build these homes. Let’s give families an opportunity to have the American dream. Be an owner where they can raise their family. A place to call home.
  • Homelessness: The city gives a great deal of monies to Nonprofits to maintain the everyday needs of these people on the streets. But we do not see an improvement. We have to develop a better method and process where we can see a change. Until then we will continue to see the encampments growing in our neighborhoods, Drugs, violence, thefts and much more.
  • Streets and Sidewalk: We need more money invested into building stronger and better sidewalks. Setting a start date and deadline date that does not impact the traffic within a community. We need to make sure that all projects are supervised and completed with good quality work and that all deadline dates are met. That is holding those in charge accountable.
  • Animal Care Services: Hold free services such as rabies, parvo vacations in all neighborhoods once a year. In my 100 days will work with my city council colleagues in creating a Council Consideration Request for policy change and begin the process.

In a crowded field of council candidates, what differentiates you from the others?

In a crowed field of council candidates the difference between myself and others is that I bring 35 years of experience and skills, as a community organizer and leader and a proven successful track record of accomplishments of being the 1st person to ever form a coalition of (30) neighborhood leaders that have remained in tack for over five years. My visibility communication skills within these (30) neighborhoods has played an important role in my leadership in District 2. One who has got the job done.

If elected, how do you plan to solicit input and feedback from residents in your district?

I cannot tell you what I would do, because I am already doing this job of keeping our communities informed getting feed back, coming to the table with (30) neighborhood leaders and finding solutions.

I have experience in working with elected officials in District 2. My leadership trust and respect of our community to include 35 years experience and skills is why, I am running for District 2 City Councilwoman. I plan to be a Councilwoman who will be in attendance at community neighborhood meetings frequently to hear the concerns in person of the residents and businesses.

I will put more community leaders and business within District 2 on commissions and Boards. I will bring transparency, my skills and experience to the table. I will not discriminate against our seniors. I will expect for my constituents to hold me accountable for my work if I am elected as your next District 2 City Councilwoman.
