Free fishing lessons for kids 16 and under will be offered at Woodlawn Lake Casting Pond — home to channel catfish ranging from six to eight inches long — from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

A Texas Parks and Wildlife ambassador will teach kids how to put bait a hook, cast their line and reel in catfish.

Rods and bait will be provided by the City Council District 7 office, in partnership with organizations like Texas Parks and Wildlife and Fin Addict Angler Foundation. Latino Outdoors, Boy Scouts of America and the San Antonio Police Officers Association will also be in attendance with additional activities for kids.

Boy Scouts will teach boat safety and knot tying, and Texas Parks and Wildlife ambassadors will teach the fundamentals of fishing.

Free hot dogs, chips and refreshments will be served for all who attend. Closed-toe shoes are recommended for those attending to fish.
