The Where I Live series aims to showcase our diverse city and region by spotlighting its many vibrant neighborhoods. Each week a local resident invites us over and lets us in on what makes their neighborhood special. Have we been to your neighborhood yet? Get in touch to share your story. If your story is selected and published, you will receive a $250 stipend.
After enduring the harsh winters of Ohio and the sweltering heat of southern Arizona, I finally found my “just right” in San Antonio in 2013. The city has provided the perfect backdrop for my family to settle down and create lasting memories.
Nestled snugly between Windcrest and Kirby, Estrella on Rittiman exemplifies modern suburban living. Just two years young, this blossoming development is entering its final phase.
The neighborhood is strategically positioned, offering residents seamless access to major highways like I-35 North, I-10 East, and 410 East, making commutes a breeze and connecting us effortlessly to the bustling energy of San Antonio. Whether you’re heading downtown for work or embarking on a weekend getaway, the open roads await just beyond our charming streets.
For daily shopping needs, residents have H-E-B and Walmart nearby. And when it comes to retail therapy, our neighborhood is flanked by the sprawling shopping centers of Woodlake Crossings, Foster Road Shopping Center and Windsor Park Centre. Each offers a unique blend of stores and eateries, catering to diverse tastes and needs.

Education is a cornerstone of our community, and the Judson School District serves as a beacon of academic excellence. Parents can rest easy knowing that their children are receiving top-notch education in a nurturing environment. The district’s reputation for high standards and comprehensive programs ensures that students are well-prepared for future challenges.
My daughter, a junior, has thrived in the Judson School District. The district’s robust pre-college courses and enrichment programs have been instrumental in her academic and personal growth. The support and opportunities provided by the school have been a highlight of our experience in this community.
Dining in Estrella on Rittiman is a delightful journey, particularly along the FM78 corridors. This stretch is a culinary haven, brimming with an array of dining options that cater to every palate. From cozy family-owned diners to trendy eateries, the FM78 corridor is the place to be for food enthusiasts. Each meal becomes an adventure, a chance to explore new flavors and indulge in favorite dishes.
One of my favorite spots is Momma Luv’s Soul and Caribbean Food on Austin Highway. Their Brown Stew Chicken and Rice, along with oxtails, offer a taste of home-cooked comfort. Another gem is Gordo’s Mini Taco and Snacks on N Foster Road, where their special plate featuring mini tacos, quesadilla, gordita churro, and fajita is a must-try. Both places exude a warm, friendly and inviting atmosphere where conversations often start with a smile.
The essence of Estrella on Rittiman lies in its community spirit. Despite its proximity to major highways and commercial centers, it retains a serene, suburban charm. Neighbors greet each other with warm smiles, children play in safe, well-maintained parks and the streets are lined with homes that exude warmth and character. We are hoping that the final phase of development will include additional green spaces that could be used for community facilities, further enriching our lifestyle.

Our neighborhood is a melting pot of diverse backgrounds, including many military families. The area is relatively new, with a homeowners association that organizes events, particularly around the holidays, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
Moving into our home marked the beginning of countless cherished memories. From trying out local family-owned restaurants to watching my eldest daughter navigate milestones like her first job and learning to drive, this neighborhood has been the foundation of many firsts. Now, my youngest daughter is following in her sister’s footsteps, learning to drive and building her own memories with classmates.
Our journey from Ohio to Arizona and finally to San Antonio has been a testament to finding the perfect balance, and we look forward to many more years of making memories here. Estrella on Rittiman is not just a place to live, but a place to thrive. As we look toward the future, there’s a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation, knowing that our little corner of the world is only getting better with time.
