Future representation of the North San Antonio Texas House district where Rep. Steve Allison faces a challenger backed by top figures in the state Republican Party will be the topic of a debate hosted by the San Antonio Report on Monday, Feb. 12.
The District 121 debate will feature the three-term incumbent, Allison, as well as criminal defense attorney Marc LaHood, who picked up endorsements from Gov. Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton after Allison joined 20 other Republicans in shutting down a school voucher plan in a special session. He also went along with members of the Texas House to impeach Paxton over allegations of bribery and abuse of office.
LaHood waged an unsuccessful campaign in 2022 for Bexar County district attorney.
So far on the campaign trail, the candidates have sparred over the issue of vouchers, or whether the state should spend taxpayer money on private school education, among other topics splitting GOP primary voters.
The event will be held at the Norris Conference Center in the Park North Shopping Center, 618 NW Loop 410, Ste. 207 in San Antonio, and doors open to arrivals at 5:30 p.m. The town hall-style debate will begin promptly at 6 p.m. and be moderated by the San Antonio Report’s government and politics reporter, Andrea Drusch.
Attendees will be subject to a bag check and no weapons are allowed on the premises.
The event is open to the public and will be livestreamed. RSVP to attend the event in-person or be sent a virtual link.
