Sharon Gelman is a writer, editor, media producer, and human rights advocate who focuses on the intersection of art and activism. She is the US editor of and interviewer for 200 Women: Who Will Change the Way You See the World, published in 2017 by Chronicle Books in the U.S. and internationally. Gelman was the longtime executive director of Artists for a New South Africa, working in the US and Africa to combat racism, advance equality and voting rights, and fight HIV/AIDS. She produced the award-winning, Grammy-nominated audiobook, Nelson Mandela’s Favorite African Folktales, directed by Alfre Woodard and featuring a diverse case of noted performers, which raised money for children orphaned by AIDS. Gelman is a graduate of the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College and a proud Macondonista. She is currently at work on her first novel.
