The COA will report on the current state of VIA public transit in the greater San Antonio area and identify possibilities for improving and expanding current services over the next five years. As part of the process, VIA will conduct a route-by-route analysis and consider the feasibility of integrating other mobility options into the service network.
With only a fraction of the municipal funding that public transportation systems in other comparable Texas cities receive, VIA aims to develop plans for best allocating its limited financial resources.
The Comprehensive Operations Analysis, which began this May, is scheduled for completion by April 2017.
VIA customers and other San Antonio residents will have the opportunity to learn more about the COA process, voice their opinions on the project, and discuss the findings collected thus far at the open houses listed below. “Public comment will help influence the direction and development of service and route adjustments,” said VIA Communications Manager Lorraine Pulido. Open house attendees will be invited to speak with VIA staff about their concerns, leave written suggestions, and participate in exercises designed to gauge transportation priorities.
With more than one million new residents projected to arrive in San Antonio in the next 25 years, developing an efficient and effective public transit system will be vital in mitigating traffic congestion.
