Following her successful election onto the San Antonio Independent School District school board, former city councilwoman Leticia Ozuna stepped down from her role as a trustee on the San Antonio Water System board. Ozuna was not present at the SAWS monthly board meeting earlier this week.
The application process to fill the vacancy left by her departure on the SAWS board will open in July, the mayor’s spokesman Bruce Davidson told the San Antonio Report Wednesday. City Council will then make the appointment.
Ozuna, who served as a District 3 City Councilwoman from 2012 to 2013, defeated Judit Vega with 55% of the vote during the general May election to secure the District 3 seat on the SAISD school board.
Mayor Ron Nirenberg said during her time on the SAWS board Ozuna highlighted the importance of cybersecurity within the City’s water system and ensured that the issue was not being ignored. Nirenberg serves as a member of the SAWS board in his official capacity.
“Her contributions were appreciated, and she will be missed,” Nirenberg said. “I wish her the best as she dedicates her public service work to the San Antonio ISD board.”
