The San Antonio International Airport has added a nonstop daily flight to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
American Airlines will provide a 9 a.m. departure and 10 p.m. arrival time every day, allowing travelers to plan same-day trips to New York City. More than 300,000 people fly between San Antonio and New York City every year, according to aviation officials.
“This is exciting news for San Antonio and our travelers, because there is a growing demand from leisure travelers to visit one of the top tourist destinations in the country, and now there’s even more access for business travelers to cultivate ties in the financial, high-tech, research and software sectors,” the City’s Aviation Director Russ Handy stated in a news release Tuesday.
The announcement comes days after the airport released its August travel numbers. San Antonio saw a 881,896 passengers pass through the airport – a 17-percent increase over August 2017.
Those numbers represent the airport’s best period in more than a decade, Handy said.
“Passenger totals for 2018 are approaching 10 million and the demand for air travel continues to increase,” he said in a news release last Friday.
New York will be the second city in the Northeast connecting to San Antonio through nonstop flights, with American Airlines also providing flights to and from Philadelphia, which began earlier this year.
Tickets to JFK go on sale Oct. 8, for flights starting on Feb. 14.
