San Antonio lined up along East Houston Street for The Western Heritage Parade and Cattle Drive. Always a crowd favorite, locals and tourists alike packed against temporary fencing and waited for hundreds of cattle to pass down the historic downtown street.
I started the morning by walking to the staging section where the livestock was fenced in underneath IH 10. After spending some time getting some close ups of the cattle, I walked to the corner of Houston and North Saint Mary’s Street to claim my spot on the parade route.
As the hundreds of head of cattle passed by I was able to capture a slice of the action. Every viewer had to rally for their spot to get a glimpse of the show. Bagpipes, dancers, cowboys, and pooper scoopers were in no short supply for this event. This parade not only marks the beginning of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo but it seems to be a turning point for good weather, a welcome gift I’ll take every year.
