April 25, 1846. Capt. Seth Thornton and his 55 U.S. Army dragoons struggle to fend off Gen. Anastasio Torrejón's 1,600 Mexican soldires after being ambushed on the north bank of the Rio Grande River somewhere northwest of the Mexican city of Matamoros. This incident was the first fight of the Mexican-American war.
