Portrait photographer Sam Cook grew up on San Antonio’s East Side and has attended many of the annual marches through his community to celebrate the life and vision of Martin Luther King Jr.
For the 36th march, however, Cook spent the day photographing some of the people that make up those thousands of participants.
“My motivation was to give people joy, laughter and to let them know they have not gone unnoticed in the world,” he said.
Cook, 33, grew up attending the march with his mother, Tanya, walking by her side along with others throughout the city.
“The march gives a face, name and pride to the people of the East Side.”
Below are some of the portraits Cook made of marchers on Monday.
