The Battle of Flowers Parade is the oldest and largest parade during Fiesta. Perhaps, the most interesting fact is that it is not only produced entirely by women volunteers but these volunteers are credited with showcasing one of the largest parades in the United States.
The Battle of Flowers Association builds nine floats every year and the parade hosts nine public school systems, along with their entourage of pep squads, drill teams, cheerleaders, and junior ROTC programs. An increased amount of all women junior ROTC squadrons were highly visible this year. These all female units ranged from full color guards to bearing a simple staff of arms.
The women that give their time and effort to building this parade every year are earmarked by their bright yellow dresses and hats. The parade is said to attract nearly 350,000 attendees of all ages to the downtown area.
