From cloud-based companies, such as Google and Rackspace Hosting, to your bank’s mobile app for depositing a check, the society we live in is driven by technology and powered by entrepreneurs as business builders and job creators. As engines of economic development, technology entrepreneurs help develop innovative goods and services to meet market desires and needs. All that is contingent on one key system in society: education.

The 80/20 Foundation‘s San Antonio Technology Education Report serves two purposes as an overview of the technology education landscape in San Antonio. First, an individual can explore programs that align with their learning style and professional goals. It’s about having options. Second, we live in an economy driven by institutions that produce specialized talent because it’s efficient for recruiting purposes. This report allows a company to have an overview of the technology education assets in San Antonio in line with its talent needs.

Even if you consider yourself STEM-savvy, you likely will be surprised to find a program you’ve never heard of in the more than 70 summer camps, degree programs, and boot camps contained in the report. Contact information, program length, and prerequisite experience levels are clearly indicated for each to create a one-stop browser of technology programs for people of almost all ages and skill sets in San Antonio (or thinking about being in San Antonio).

We hope leaders in every sector in San Antonio will consider adding the Technology Education Report to their growing toolbox of branding materials, such as City on the Rise report, Under Construction report, and Brain Gain study reported by Texas CEO Magazine and the Rivard Reportto explain San Antonio as an up and coming world-class city to live and build, relocate, or expand a high-skill company.

Human capital is the most valuable asset to every company because professionals drive productivity and it’s our education system that allows a company to continue hiring talented individuals. The cities that produce high-skilled technology talent so that supply meets demand will rise above the others in building a vibrant, prosperous community in our modern economy. The fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) have? a significant impact on the economic growth and vitality of San Antonio.

According to “The Hidden STEM Economy by the Brookings Institution, “STEM-oriented metropolitan economies perform strongly on a wide range of economic indicators, from innovation to employment. Job growth, employment rates, patenting, wages and exports are all higher in more STEM-based economies.”
